PAUL Braithwaite isn’t about to press the panic button, despite seeing his Wootton Bassett Town side put to the sword by title-chasers Highmoor Ibis.

Bassett suffered their biggest defeat of the season as they were hammered 6-0 in Reading, with the league leaders’ Anthony White and Sanchez Commock both netting braces whilst Tristen Campbell and Steven Peacock both also got in on the rout.

But manager Braithwaite says that his team were always up against it due to a raft of absentees from their match-day squad and is keen to draw a line under their drubbing at the Palmer Park Stadium as quickly as possible.

“I’m not going to dwell on it. I’m not going to panic about it at all,” said the Bassett boss.

“There are going to be some periods where we have bad results but we’ve had some good results in the last few months and I’m not going to worry about what happened.

“Yes, we should have been more competitive on the day but we were also missing six or seven players, which didn’t help us at all. James Skinner, Sam Brown, George Drewitt, Steve Robertson, Tyler Sheppard, Richie Carter and Josh Skeates were all missing for different reasons.

“We’re not going to go out and beat the top sides 2 or 3-0 every week. It’s one result and it’s not a good one but we’re just going to move on from it.”

Bassett are in midweek action next Wednesday when they host Binfield at the Corinium Stadium.

Braithwaite added: “We’ve got another game to think about but it’s not going to be an easy one at all.

“I know Rog (Binfield manager Roger Herridge) quite well and they’ve got a good side there. Hopefully we can get five of the seven that were out back in the side.”

Elsewhere, Shrivenham suffered a second successive 3-0 reverse as they were beaten at Abingdon United.
