ROBYN Levitt came to Swindon Town Ladies’ rescue in a penalty shootout success at Larkhall Athletic in the first round of the FA Women’s Cup.

The Town stopper was the heroine as she saved the final spot-kick to send the visitors through with a 5-4 success after the two sides could not break the deadlock in 120 minutes of football.

However, Town manager Steve Robertson said that he could not bear to watch the majority of the shoot-out as his side fell 3-1 behind.

“It was probably the worst shoot-out I had ever seen and I just couldn’t watch anymore,” Robertson said.

“I found out that we won when I was sorting out the kit bag and heard the girls screaming and I looked out the window and saw them running towards Robyn.

“It was a great experience for the girls to be involved in a penalty shootout and to win it – but I couldn’t do it every week.”

Meg Vella and Ellie Maynard had several opportunities to give Swindon the lead at Larkhall during normal, while Lisa Coe also went close.

But following a goalless 120 minutes the cup tie went to penalties which saw Coe, Michelle Rich, Chenise Austin, Beth Thompson and Sam Quinn all hit the target.

However, it was Levitt’s heroics that sent Town through.

“It was great for Robyn,” Robertson said. “She was a little upset after making a rare mistake last weekend but she was superb today.”
