HIGHWORTH Town Ladies stretched their unbeaten run in the Wiltshire Women’s & Girls League’s Open Division to eight matches with a 2-1 win at Marlborough Town.

After three weeks off due to the weather, Highworth were keen to get going again and Hannah Dalgleish tested the Marlborough keeper after three minutes.

The breakthrough arrived a minute later as a skilful break from Mariana Claus allowed Dalgleish to set up midfielder Kerry Walklett to fire home from the edge of the box.

Town continued to break through regularly, thanks to their attacking trio of Walklett, Dalgleish and Claus.

At the other end keeper Vanessa Eve and sweeper Sadie Harrison kept the visitors’ goal intact against a succession of Marlborough corners.

As Highworth tired after the break, Marlborough pushed forward and Worthians skipper Lauren Coward had to clear off the line.

After 55 minutes, though, the home side were on level terms as a free-kick opened up the visitors.

But with 15 minutes left, Harrison stepped up to smash the winner into the top corner.

Elsewhere, Swindon Spitfires secured an impressive 10-1 victory over Frome Town Reserves.

United went close early on, but Jess Dent’s shot was saved.

However, the first goal did come on 10 minutes as Georgia Leonard latched onto a Dent pass and calmly slotted home.

Four minutes later good work from Emma Pinkney and Claire Morton allowed Dent to run through the defence and net from close range.

Spitfires’ third arrived in the 21st minute as Morton’s corner fell kindly to Kayleigh Reeves who, on her return to the club after nearly a year out, fired home.

Six minutes later a wayward goal-kick from the Frome keeper fell at Morton’s feet and she powered home the fourth.

Frome did pull a goal back as they beat the offside trap and calmly slotted past a stranded Shona Hanlon.

In the second half Spitfires completely dominated and within three minutes of the start scored their fifth as Rachel Eley’s short corner to Morton allowed her to cross in and find Karla Compton who slotted home.

In the 61st minute, Leonard had space and time for a solo run from the halfway line, sending her one-on-one with the keeper as she slotted in her second.

Two minutes later Pinkey’s well-placed pass allowed Compton to run through and score her own second and the seventh.

On 67 minutes, Morton’s corner was calmly headed home by Zofie Stepien and, moments later, Leonard’s backheel to Morton allowed her to score her second.

Player of the match Leonard completed her hat-trick with the tenth in the 73rd minute with another impressive solo effort.
