SWINDON New College chief Mark Teasdale has set his sights on climbing the table after an impressive 3-0 win on the road at Hook Norton.

The result is an impressive comeback following the embarrassing 9-1 reverse at Lydney Town a week earlier and puts distance between themselves and the foot of the table.

Teasdale now wants to build on the win and pick up more good results in New College’s festive fixtures at home to Wantage Town Reserves and away at Purton.

“It was a good response. We read the riot act a bit to the players in training as the performance at Lydney wasn’t what we’d demand or accept,” said Teasdale.

“We looked at these three games and had set ourselves the target of getting seven points.

“We would like a top-eight to top-five finish as that can mean bigger and better things for next season.

“We know we will never have a side strong enough to win the league but we would like to finish in the top third if we can.”

Jordan Wilkins put New College ahead at Hook Norton and Harvey Scholes doubled the advantage before half-time.

The visitors then survived some sustained pressure after the restart as the home side fought to find a way back into the match before Wilkins put the result beyond doubt with his second of the game.

“It wasn’t by any means an easy game and our goalkeeper, Alex Swatridge, made some really good saves to keep us in front,” added Teasdale.

“We were much more organised than the previous week as we sort of fell apart after about 15 minutes at Lydney.

“It was 2-0 at half-time and we thought they would come out and get at us in the second half, and that’s exactly what happened.

“It was a case of keep doing what we had been doing and we came through it.

“We have given away some sloppy goals in the past which have cost us but we did really well to keep a lid on everything they threw at us at the weekend.”
