JOHN Fisher believes Highworth Town will come face to face with the title favourites when they entertain Flackwell Heath tonight.

Although Flackwell are currently third in the table and seven points off top spot they have lost just once in the league all season and have five games in hand on leaders Highmoor Ibis.

Highworth enter the game in decent form themselves, having made it three wins and three clean sheets on the bounce with an impressive 3-0 success at Newbury on Saturday.

Boss Fisher, however, says that will not prevent Flackwell from starting as favourites at the Elms this evening.

“Flackwell will be a difficult game,” said Fisher, who has a full-strength squad to pick from following the victory at Newbury.

“They’re a very good side so we know exactly what we’re going to be up against.

“If you look at the table they have to be the favourites to win the league as they have only lost one game.

“We’ve been doing OK ourselves recently and it’s boding well for us at the moment as we aren’t picking up injuries.”

Highworth also have plenty of games in hand on the teams above them but are well off the pace in eighth place.

Fisher is still aiming high but thinks their chances of challenging for a top-two finish will be over if they fall to Flackwell.

“We need to get three points against them to start reeling them back in,” said Fisher.

“We can’t afford to drop any points. If we don’t get a result against them then a top-two finish in the table is beyond us.

“Thame United have won something like their last 12 games in the league, so if we can go on that sort of run then we could get ourselves close before the end of the season.

“We are capable of beating Flackwell but then we’ve got the FA Vase game on Saturday to think about as well.

“If we win both games then everything is tickady boo, but if we lose both then we are out of the Vase and probably out of the running in the league too.”
