A DEAL to take Swindon Town striker Miles Storey north of the border on loan to St Mirren could be finalised by this weekend, although the Advertiser understands a move with League Two side Northampton remains a possibility.

Storey has been training with the Scottish Premiership side north of the border so manager Gary Teale can look at the player before committing to a loan deal until the end of the season.

Storey was set to sign for Northampton in the week, with the League Two side verbally agreeing to the deal, but that collapsed when both clubs were unable to agree a suitable financial agreement, with the Cobblers claiming they were being asked to pay a weekly contribution higher than the striker's actual weekly wage.

The Adver understands a decision on the move to Scotland could be made before the weekend, with St Mirren set to play Dundee at home tomorrow afternoon.

St Mirren currently sit one place off the bottom of the league and their top goal scorer, Kenny McLean, has only netted six times so far this campaign.

The deal with Northampton is also not believed to be dead in the water and could be reignited if St Mirren pass on the striker.

Meanwhile, Town are understood to be likely to take the option to extend Nathan Byrne’s stay at the County Ground by a year, although discussions over such a move have yet to be held.

The full-back’s deal is due to expire in June but Swindon have the option to extend his stay by an extra year.
