SWINDON Supermarine J missed out on a place in the U11s Wiltshire Cup semi-finals after a 3-1 defeat at home to Trowbridge Town A.

However, Trowbridge will have gone home wondering how it was they who progressed. Had this contest been a boxing match, Marine would easily have won on points, but their lack of cutting edge was their downfall.

The hosts took a stranglehold of the game from the off and carved out their first chance when Harry Johnson volleyed wide.

Marine continued to pile on the pressure but were soon made to pay for missed chances when Trowbridge took the lead against the run of play.

The home side continued to boss the game and both Zachary Evans and Harry Johnson had glorious chances before a weak shot from Evans somehow squeezed into the net to level the scores at the break.

Supermarine continued where they left off in the second half but Joah Hall and Luke Legg spurned more good chances to get them in front.

Trowbridge then landed another cruel blow when a corner was bundled over the line to snatch the lead.

Marine refused to buckle and continued to create chances and looked to have levelled again through Legg only for the visiting keeper to get a toe on the ball to divert it out for a corner.

To add insult to injury, in a near carbon copy of their first goal and from just their second shot of the half, Trowbridge were able to go 3-1 up.
