HIGHWORTH Town manager John Fisher says that he’ll resist the temptation to field his reserve side when ‘league favourites’ Flackwell Heath visit the Elms this Saturday.

The Worthians boss could be forgiven for handing his first team a day off ahead of their crucial FA Vase quarter-final clash with Yorkshire side Tadcaster Albion on February 28, particularly with Highworth Reserves not in action in Hellenic League Division Two West, but Fisher insists that he won’t be pulling a fast one.

Third-placed Flackwell, who made the fifth round of the Vase alongside Fisher’s men before bowing out, have only lost once in the Premier Division all season and the Elms chief says that he has a duty of care to the other title-chasers.

“I think they’re the title favourites. They’ve only lost once and it’s not fair to teams like Highmoor, who are top of the league, if we rest our first team,” said Fisher.

“I could do it. The reserves don’t have a game on Saturday so I could rest all the first team and play them but I’m not going to do that.

“We’ll go with pretty much a full-strength side. We want to prove a point against them.

“The only problem we’ve got is that the weather is supposed to be bad.

“We want the game to be on because we’ve got two players (Callum Parsons and Johnny Aitkenhead) who’ve got one-match bans we want to get out of the way before the Vase game.”

Top scorer TJ Bohane is Fisher’s only real injury doubt ahead of Saturday’s clash with Buckinghamshire outfit Flackwell after picking up a knock in Wednesday’s 4-0 Wiltshire Senior Cup semi-final success over Amesbury Town.

Meanwhile, Shrivenham caretaker boss Michael McNally is hoping that his team can get a spring back in their step this weekend ahead of their local derby with Wootton Bassett Town next Wednesday.

Struggling Shrivvy travel to 15th-placed Milton United this weekend, with defender Charlie Basilone their only injury doubt.

“They are good side, Milton. We know that they are going to be tough but we are going there to be positive and try and get the three points to give us some confidence going into the Bassett match (on February 25),” said McNally.

“We need to try and build some momentum to go into that game and try and rebuild the confidence - the last couple of months they have lacked that and self belief.

“Hopefully we can get that right on Saturday and take it into the Bassett match.”

While McNally has not brought in any new faces ahead of tomorrow’s clash he is hopeful that there will be a couple of additions by Wednesday.

“I’m working on two or three new players at the moment and hopefully they will be with us in time for the Bassett match,” McNally said.
