SWINDON Supermarine chief Dave Webb would love to see his team make theirs a double when they travel to Sholing this weekend.

Back in December, Marine put in one of their most complete displays of the season as they dispatched last season’s Wessex League and FA Vase champions 5-2 at the Webb’s Wood Stadium.

And Webb has his fingers crossed that his side will be able to complete a double over their Southampton opponents after only succeeding in racking up two Southern Division One South & West victories against the same opponent - Wantage Town - so far this term.

“We’re going there looking to pick up three points. We’re in the middle of three important games against the teams around us and we already did a good job against Clevedon last weekend,” said the Marine manager.

“But Sholing is a tough place to go. They dropped out of the league last year and went back down to the Wessex but the season before, when they were in our league, we down there and got beat heavily (5-1).

“Last weekend, they only had a narrow 1-0 loss to Evesham United, who are one of the form teams in the division.

“I thought that we were very good against Clevedon. I thought that we saw a different Connor Waldon, who scored a fantastic goal and really contributed, but we’re going to have to be even better than we were on Saturday to win at Sholing.

“We’ve got 13 games left and our aim is to pick up as many points as possible between now and the end of season so that we get a top-half finish.”

Webb revealed that the injury problems that have blighted his team’s campaign are finally beginning to alleviate, even if he has a whole back four out of this weekend’s trip to Hampshire.

Right-back Kyle Lapham, left-back Mark Flanagan, and centre-halves Aaron Oakley and Dave Bampton are all ruled out with injury and won’t be available for the Sholing clash.

The Marine boss said: “When you look at it, that’s a good back four there.

“Kyle Lapham did a little bit of training for the first time last week and Mark Flanagan has had a recurrence of his knee injury. Aaron Oakley hasn’t played for the club yet and Dave Bampton is still out with his back problem.

“But the injury list is finally getting shorter.”
