PAUL Braithwaite is anticipating a challenging tie when his Wootton Bassett Town side take on Hellenic League Division One West table-toppers Longlevens in the third round of the Challenge Cup on Saturday.

Bassett have notched up three victories in their last five outings in the Premier Division but are set to take on a Gloucester outfit that are used to winning matches, with Longlevens, who were promoted from the Gloucestershire County League last term, having racked up 15 triumphs from their 19 games so far in the league below.

But boss Braithwaite says that his side are planning on chucking ‘100 per cent’ into their attempt to reach the quarter-finals of the competition.

“They are flying in their league. I haven’t actually looked in the last couple of weeks but I know they were probably looking odds on favourites to win that league,” said the Bassett manager.

“It will be a tough game and the people I have spoken to in that league have said they are a really good outfit and a good side.

“I’m not sure how we’ll approach it. There were three lads who started in the cup in the previous round against Henley, who probably aren’t in the squad every week, so those three will come back in and they’ll get a start.

“We’ll approach it the right way and whatever we do it will be a very hard game.

“I know whoever is fit and whoever is not, we’ll go out and give it 100 per cent.

“We want to go through to the next round and we don’t want the upset.”

Longlevens chief James French will be well-versed in the surroundings of the Corinium Stadium as he manages the Cirencester Arena, which is based at Bassett’s current shared ground.

Richie Carter and Nathan Hawkins are injury doubts for Bassett ahead of this weekend’s cup tie.

Braithewaite added: “We had to play Nathan Gambling, our centre forward, at left back on Saturday because we were missing a couple and we picked up a couple of injuries as well.”
