JOHN Fisher may be delighted that his side have the chance to be crowned kings of the county but the Highworth Town manager is less than impressed with the scheduling of the Wiltshire Senior Cup final.

The Worthians booked their place in the county cup final by hammering Amesbury Town 4-0 in midweek and are set to renew hostilities with Western League Bradford Town, who they bested in the FA Vase fifth round earlier this month, on Wednesday April 29.

But Fisher believes that pencilling in the final of the county’s top cup competition, which has been held at Chippenham Town’s Hardenhuish Park ground for the last three seasons, for a Wednesday night removes the gloss from the occasion.

“If we win it, how are my players supposed to celebrate? What are they going to do at 10 at night on a Wednesday in Chippenham?” said the Highworth manager.

“The only thing that should be played on a Wednesday night is the Champions League. And those guys are pros that will be able to have the next day off.

“It’s absolute nonsense. My boys work hard to get through the rounds and they all take place on a Saturday. And then the semi-finals and final happen in the middle of the week.

“It just shows how the people running it haven’t got a clue.

“It’s Wiltshire’s top competition and the final should be played at the County Ground, like it was when I was a player.

“We should also have Supermarine and Chippenham in it.

“They should come in at the quarter-finals so they don’t have to play teams that they’re going to beat easily.”
