LOWER Stratton pulled off one of the shocks of the season when they downed Spectrum to book a place in the Adver Cup final.

The two teams’ Premier Division records could not be more different this term, with Spectrum flying high in second in the table, while Stratton scrap it out second from bottom.

But Alan Spring’s troops threw the form book out of the window as they bagged a 3-2 extra time win on the road.

And they now face an even more daunting prospect in the final as they take on an Avtar Construction side who have won every league game they have played this season, following their 3-1 success at home to the Clifton in the other semi.

“We couldn’t be happier,” said a delighted Spring.

“We haven’t been having the best of seasons. We had a cracking year last year when we won the Division One title but this year it’s been a bit more difficult.

“We have now got Avtar in the final and they haven’t lost a game this season.

“We are the underdogs but we will just go into the game and give it our best for 90 minutes, or longer if that’s what’s needed.”

Saturday’s clash was an action-packed affair, with three penalties awarded at Cricklade Road.

Stratton skipper Dean Ramshaw missed the first but his side were able to get themselves in front at the break through William Hooton’s strike.

Diogo Casiniro doubled the visitors’ lead after the restart but Spectrum hit back when they were awarded a pair of penalties, both of which were converted by Eddie Allsop.

That saw the game head into extra time but Stratton kept their cool and booked their place in the final when Hooton netted his second.

Boss Spring added: “The lads played their socks off. I couldn’t have asked for more from them.

“Spectrum have had a really good season but I’m not sure whether or not they thought they might have an easy game.

“I think their keeper may have let them down before the game, so it could have been different but it’s hard to say.

“When we went to extra time I did feel that we may need another game to decide it but luckily it was our day.”

There was also a semi-final in the George Thomas Cup, with Old Town United beating Redhouse 2-1 thanks to Jamie McCabe’s double. Chris Ullah replied for Redhouse.

There were no Premier Division fixtures but KS Miltax ran riot in Division One, romping to a 9-1 victory at North Swindon WMC.

Mateusz Kapustka helped himself to four goals, Kamil Fiedorowicz got two and Piotr Kusztykiewicz, David Szczutkowski and Lukasz Zareba also hit the target.

Finally, Ricky Hewitson’s brace helped Swindon Centurians to a 3-0 win over Chiseldon, with their lot completed by an own goal.
