RODBOURNE Real have taken the Swindon Sunday League Division Three title challenge down to the final game of the season.

The Siddington Playing Fields-based side secured a 5-1 success over FS Swindon despite having Damien Debono dismissed for a professional foul.

It was that home victory that has moved James Wilcox’s side to within one point of leaders Tap and Barrel with only one match remaining.

“We needed that win,” Wilcox said. “It keeps the season going into the final weekend.

“We know that we have to beat Tawny Owl and hope that Tap can’t beat G Power Solutions on Sunday.

“We are guaranteed second place and that is a fantastic achievement for the club, but it would be great if we could win the league.

“The club was formed eight years ago with many of the players 16 or 17-years-old and the nucleus of that side is still together.”

Chris Wright headed Rodbourne into the lead before a Darren Higgs header doubled the advantage.

Nathan Cooper was also on target as he lobbed the FS Swindon keeper from the edge of the box, while Josh Kirby saw the hosts take a 4-0 lead.

The visitors pulled a consolation goal back before the evergreen Jon Reeves scored from long range.

C2HM Hill claimed their third win of the season in Division Two with a 4-3 success over Penhill Moonrakers.

Chiseldon’s Division Four title chances suffered a blow when they lost 4-3 at DBS.

In Division Five, Gorsehill Borough and Bounce Squad threw away the defensive textbook during a 14-goal thriller that saw the latter win 9-5, while there were nine goals in the division’s other match with Nationwide defeating PSV Swindon 6-3.

Northern Lights fell to their 19th defeat in Division Six as they went down 8-1 at County Ground, while Croft Junior returned home from Rosier Rovers with a 2-1 success.

Willowgreen Hotspur maintained the pressure on leaders FC Abbey Meads as they crushed AFC Royal 9-0, while the table-toppers edged out Westbrook 3-2 and in the division’s other match Cricklade Park Rangers and Swindon Athletic shared 10-goals between them.
