MICHAEL McNally says that he needs to take stock after the season has finished before deciding if he should become Shrivenham’s permanent manager.

McNally stepped up from assistant manager to caretaker chief following the departure of player-boss Sam Collier back in February.

Shrivvy host champions Flackwell Heath on Saturday before finishing their campaign away to Brimscombe & Thrupp next Tuesday evening and are certain to finish in the bottom two of the Hellenic League Premier Division, with relegation to Division One West a possibility.

And McNally says that despite being asked to stay on as the man in charge at Barrington Park, he wants to take his time before coming to a decision.

“A few people on the committee at the club, including the chairman, have asked me to stay on next season,” said McNally.

“From my point of view, I need to get the season done and dusted, take two or three weeks, and then sit down to talk about what way I want to go.

“When I took over from Sam, things did get better for a little bit but in the last few weeks, there have been a few individuals – people within the club and players – that have let the club down for different reasons, and that’s been disappointing.

“We’ll get the season done and then we’ll see what happens.”

Saturday’s clash with Flackwell will be the second stop of the Buckinghamshire outfit’s title tour but McNally won’t be at Barrington Park on Saturday to roll out the red carpet.

The Shrivvy chief will be donning a Three Lions jersey as he represents the England Seniors side in their match against Northern Ireland in Belfast.

Midfielder McNally said: “I play for Hungerford Vets and Norman Matthews, the manager there, plays for the over 65s team and is involved with England.

“It’s the over 40s side. We’re playing Northern Ireland over in Belfast, so I won’t be there for the game on Saturday.

“The boys will cope. The reserve manager (and chairman) James Dore will take the side and I’m sure they’ll let me know if they get a result.

“It’s going to be a very tough game on Saturday because Flackwell Heath have already won the league.

“But they’ll probably bring quite a few with them and it’ll be a good opportunity for our young lads.”

Shirvvy will be without defender Adam Corcoran and forward Elliott Day for Saturday’s game.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Highworth Town played their fourth game in 10 days as they took on Brimscombe last night.

The end-of-season fixture congestion for John Fisher’s men continues this weekend when they host high-flying Kidlington at the Elms on Saturday before completing their league programme with a trip to Ardley United next Tuesday.

Highworth take on Western League side Bradford Town in the Wiltshire Senior Cup final at Chippenham Town’s Hardenhuish Park on Wednesday, April 29.
