CROFT Junior completed an upset of their own over the weekend as they beat PSG Amateurs 3-0 in the final of the Bunny Uzzell Memorial Shield.

The Division Six side went into the game full of confidence and, despite finishing the game with nine men, they were able to secure a shield scalp.

Three second-half goals were enough for Gary Sellars’ team to beat the side who sit two leagues above them in the Sunday League ladder.

Aaron Dale opened the scoring before an own goal doubled the lead and Joe Grant secured the shield from the penalty spot after a handball in the box.

The game ended on a sour note as Croft saw themselves reduced to nine men, while PSG Amateurs also saw a player sent off late on.

“It was great to get to the cup final and to win,” said Sellar.

“I think we dominated the game from the first whistle to the last.

“I was saying before the game that they needed to concentrate on their football and plenty of hard-work, and if they did that, they would reap the rewards.

“To be honest, we expected to win. Just looking at some of the results they had against teams we had played in the past, I would have been surprised if they had beaten us.

“There has been a great team spirit and a good work ethic which has seen us get the success this season.

“We ended the game with nine men and the other team ended the game with ten men.

“One of them was for a mass punch up and the other was for a bad foul.

“It was great until the last few minutes, which kind of spoilt it a bit at the end I suppose but we all went out for a celebration afterwards.”

In the title decider in Division Two it was KC Globe who jumped above Deers Leap to clinch the crown on the final day of the season with a 2-0 victory.

In Division Four, Penhill Moonrakers finished their campaign with a disappointing 3-2 defeat at home to second from bottom AFC Swindon United.
