WOOTTON Bassett Town have this morning announced that Paul Braithwaite will stay on as first team manager for next season.

After a successful first season in charge, which saw Bassett secure an 11th place finish in the Hellenic League Premier Division, Braithwaite, along with his assistant Chris Green and physio Ian Dowling, has committed his future to the club.

After joining from Fairford Town last summer, the trio inherited a squad with just two holdovers from the year before.

Braithwaite put together a young team who were able to produce the club’s highest ever finish in the Hellenic League, while securing away wins in the FA Cup and FA Vase against Brockenhurst (3-0) and Cove (3-2) respectively.

Bassett recorded their longest ever unbeaten run in the top flight of the Hellenic League, managing a nine game streak that began with victory away at Reading Town in February and ended only with defeat to champions Flackwell Heath in the final game of the campaign.

The 66 goals scored over the course of the season in the league also bettered all of Bassett’s previous Hellenic Premier Division records.

Helping achieve that figure were the goals of Dan Bailey, Steve Robertson and Nathan Gambling, all of whom made it to double figures in the league.

Manager Braithwaite is looking to expand his management team for next season, and is hoping to add an experienced coach to his staff.
