DAVE Webb reckons the hardest test of Swindon Supermarine’s fledgling season awaits on Saturday as they travel to Larkhall Athletic.

Marine have started the new Division One South & West campaign in flying form and bagged a late win at Evesham United in midweek to seal a third win from the opening four games.

However, they now travel to take on last season’s beaten play-off finalists this weekend and Webb knows a stiff challenge awaits his troops.

“We looked at August as quite a tough month but you can’t ask for a lot more than three wins from four and we’ve had three clean sheets too,” said Webb.

“We’ve looked quite strong and resolute at the back and that’s where it all starts.

“I have never seen us having a problem scoring goals with the quality of players we have going forwards but last season with the injuries we had we did struggle to keep clean sheets.

“It’s a tough game on Saturday and Larkhall will be in the pack chasing promotion. I think it will be our hardest test so far.

“They are a good side and are very organised. They only came up into the league last year but nearly got promoted straight away.

“They have lost people over the summer but they have strengthened as well and a lot of their players they have brought in have experience of the league above, and the league above that as well.”

Youngster Oli Bailey was Marine’s hero in midweek, coming off the bench to score a stoppage time winner, and Webb says he is not far away from a place in the first XI.

“This is Oli’s first taste of football at this level since he left Southampton as a youngster,” said Webb.

“He as come on and had a massive impact, and that’s all you can ask when you are not starting games.

“He has done everything that has been asked of him since he came and he will only get better.

“He will be confident with how he has done for us and he is pushing for a start.”

Ash Taylor is a doubt for the game having come off against Evesham with a hamstring problem, as is Ryan Morgan who is still struggling with a knee injury.

However, Marine are hopeful that Bradley Gray could be fit to return for the first time since the opening day of the season.
