HIGHWORTH Town maintained their flawless start to the season as a solitary strike from top-scorer TJ Bohane handed them all three points at Ascot United.

Striker Bohane slotted home his sixth goal of the season so far with six minutes of the first half remaining to ensure that John Fisher’s men are sitting pretty in fourth-place in the Hellenic League Premier Division, with the Worthians boasting three wins from as many games.

Highworth started brightly and Chris Grace in the home goal had to punch away a Bohane header after seven minutes.

The visitors’ Brad Clark had a couple of long-range shots go wide but a game of few chances was effectively settled on 39 minutes. After some excellent individual play to get clear of a melee of Ascot defenders, Callum Parsons fed Bohane down the left hand side of the penalty box and he clinically flashed a shot across Grace and into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.

Ascot’s best chance to draw level in the first half came on 42 minutes when Highworth keeper Kurtis Sharkey accidently punched a high ball straight to David Pitt, but his shot from eight yards out went wide.

Highworth could have settled matters straight after half-time when a great right-wing cross from Dan Drewett was met by Richie Saunders but his downward header bounced over of the bar.

Bohane could also have added a second in the 75th minute from a Parsons pass but his shot was blocked and cleared for a corner.

Meanwhile, Ascot’s forwards created little other than a couple of shots which cleared the Highworth bar until added time, when Sharkey firstly pushed a Jamie West effort around the post and then saved a close-range header from the subsequent corner.
