GARETH Davies was pleased with the hard work of his side as they claimed their first home win of the campaign with a convincing 3-0 win over Clanfield 85.

Town’s new signings Sam Mepham and Jason Milhench both shone for the hosts with the latter opening the scoring before assisting Scott Chilcott for the second.

Davies was also giving himself a pat on the back when substitute Jack Allen netted moments after his arrival in the game to round off a good performance.

“We obviously trained on Tuesday and went through lots of patterns of play,” said Davies.

“We put it into practice yesterday afternoon and we looked solid at the back and going forward we certainly had an edge.

“The two wide men for us were outstanding and I felt they made a real difference.

“It is the best I have seen them play for a long time.

“The new lads that came in, Sam Mepham and Jason Milhench, were outstanding but all 14 played their part.

“It was a good day and we’ll make the most of that.”

The home side opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Milhench played a one-two with Danny Hale on the halfway line and carried on his run before slotting the ball beyond the keeper.

Fairford doubled their advantage before the break when Milhench went down the left and Chilcott got on the end of the resultant cross from six-yards out.

With 10 minutes to go substitute Allen wrapped up the scoring with his first touch as he got his head to a corner, to the delight of Davies.

“The last couple of games had been very disappointing and we just needed to work a little bit harder,” added the Fairford boss.

“They went out with a decent work ethic and from the first whistle to the last they worked their socks of and got the rewards.

“I am hoping, now they have seen what it takes to win a game, they will carry it on.”

Meanwhile, strikes from Ben Lodge and Jack Lowers handed New College Swindon their first home win of the season.

It was a bad day for Purton as they finished with 10 men, after David Gee was dismissed for two bookable offences, in their 2-0 defeat away to Carterton, who jumped above Justin Miller’s side into third place in the process.
