JUSTIN Miller is prepared to play the waiting game as his Purton side look to discover their killer instinct.

Purton were held to a 1-1 draw by Clanfield on Saturday – their third home two-goal stalemate in succession – and manager Miller says that his team were by far the most threatening outfit on display and should have taken all three points.

The hosts were ahead with just a few minutes on the clock after Ben Carter netted from the penalty spot following a handball in the area but Alex Povey headed in a second-half equaliser.

There was also a painful end to the game for Purton’s Steve Davies, who suffered an inch-long gash from a clash of heads and was taken to hospital to assess the damage.

However, Miller is taking a philosophical approach to the frustration of failing to beat Clanfield.

“Any draw at home is a bad point,” said Miller.

“We should have been three or four-up inside the opening 30 minutes but if you don’t put teams to bed, it gives them an opportunity to get an equaliser and get back into the game, which is what happened.

“We scored an early goal but we didn’t build on it and all it takes is one goal or one cross and you’re back level.

“We are struggling to finish off teams at the moment but we are creating chances, so it’s only a matter of time before they start going in – it will come.

“It’s one of those things that you just have to wait for. You have to be patient.”
