RICHARD Austen is hoping to start a revival of senior football in Cricklade.

Three years after Cricklade Town folded and pulled out of the Hellenic League, Cricklade again boast a men’s team, this time plying their trade in Division Five of the Sunday League.

Highworth Town midfielder John Davoille grabbed a hat-trick for Cricklade, while Ben Jarrett added the other.

“The long-term aim is to get football up and running again in Cricklade,” said 42-year-old manager Austen, who first played for the club at Under 10 level.

“When the club folded three years ago and pulled out of the Hellenic League I was at Wroughton and it was sad to see.

“But there is a thriving youth section here and the plan is to amalgamate the men’s and youth sections.”
