HAVING returned to action this season, Tawny Owl have set their sights of doing the treble.

Two years ago under the guise of Fratellos, the club did the county cup, league and league cup treble, going through the campaign unbeaten.

But with players looking to test themselves at a higher level and wanting to take a break, Fratellos pulled out of the league.

This year they are back with a new name and a new-look squad – but the results remain the same.

After an opening day of the season 8-0 success at Village Inn in the Premier Division, Tawny Owl are the early-season pace-setters on goals scored over reigning champions Avtar Construction following a 6-2 win over KS Miltax.

Kenny Hawkins helped himself to a brace, while Aman Arranch fired a hat-trick with Tawny skipper, former Swindon Supermarine and Highworth Town man Dave Slattery adding the other, while Adam Klups and Jose Da Cruz got the replies for Miltax.

“To be honest I think that we should have scored at least 10,” said joint-manager Ajay Sahota. “Looking at the league, even at this stage and I don’t want to be disrespectful to the other teams, the title will be between us and Avtar.

“We took a year out last season after doing the treble and we are back with some new players, some good youngsters and a few experienced players who have played for (Swindon) Supermarine and Highworth.

“The aim is to try and do the try again, we know it is going to be tough, but that is what we are hoping to do.”

Avtar are one goal behind Tawny Owl after they defeated DJC Marlborough 3-0 thanks to goals from Danny Hiscocks, Blaine Fitzgerald and Chris Price.

Bradley Farrell fired a hat-trick for Village Inn as they put their opening day of the season defeat behind them with a 5-3 win over Old Town United.

Craig Alexander and Vincent Elliott added the others for Village, while Old Town’s James Lewis netted twice with Jack Duffy scoring the other.

Floyd Garrett’s treble was not enough to prevent Core Construction losing 5-3 to Swindon Spitfires, who had Mike Cox (2), Phil Legace (2) and Nolan Paul on target, in Division One.

Jason Hodson was another player to help himself to a trio of goals on Saturday, this time for North Swindon in their 3-2 success over Bassett Bulldogs.

Moredon edged a five-goal thriller over R&D United, while Ramsbury defeated Sport 4 Pinehurst 5-1 to remain top of the table.
