STEVE Robertson has urged his Swindon Town Ladies troops to sign off with a win ahead of an enforced break to their South West Division One campaign.

Town travel to Chichester City on Sunday but after that their next league fixture is not listed until November 1 when they host Keynsham Town.

Robertson is unsure yet if there will be other matches scheduled between those dates but if Town are forced to put their feet up for a month, then he is keen for them to do so on the back off another three points.

Swindon have made a dominant start to the campaign and Wednesday’s 9-2 success over local rivals Swindon Spitfires was their seventh in a row in the league, moving them nine points clear at the top of the table.

Robertson says it is crucial to keep the pressure on their rivals with another win this weekend as that gap will almost certainly be closed during Town’s break.

“We’ve looked at the list and there is a bit of a weird situation with the fixtures at the moment. I’m not sure if it’s come from Spitfires pulling out of a cup game earlier in the season,” said Robertson.

“We are prepared for a break if that is what happens. We will organise some friendlies to keep us going, although I’m not sure if there will be cup games rescheduled in there anyway.

“If there is a break then we’d obviously love to go into it on the back of another win. If we can get a good result it would give us a bit of breathing space.

“We have played two or three more games than anyone else around us. Although it’s lovely to get the games on and done, it makes it look like we are further ahead than we are.

“We expect the other teams to keep picking up points but we just need to focus on ourselves and go out and win our games, starting on Sunday.

“It won’t be easy, though. Chichester are a good side and I’d expect them to be one of the teams challenging up at the top come the end of the season.”

Laura Morgan will miss the match through injury, while Meg Vella is unavailable.

Having been without five players for last weekend’s win at Exeter, Robertson knows he has the depth to cope with their absence and has praised the contribution of the entire squad.

“The girls are seeing the bigger picture - nowadays it’s a squad game,” added Robertson.

“It’s not about individuals or the 11 who are out on the pitch. It’s about the 17 or 18 we have in the squad. They have all bought into it and are all playing their part.”

Meanwhile, Spitfires will look to bounce back from the midweek derby defeat and claim a maiden point of the campaign at home to Larkhall Athletic.

That could well be a tough ask for Steve Turner’s side, though, as the Larks have a 100 per cent record from their four league matches so far.
