SWINDON Supermarine are still improving says manager Dave Webb as his side completed a 1-0 win over Marlow.

A first half Luke Hopper goal was enough to help Supermarine close the gap further on league-leaders North Leigh, who were in FA Cup action.

Webb’s side dominated the early proceedings and took the lead after 20 minutes when Ashley Edenborough beat the home side’s high line.

The forward was played down the right side to beat the offside trap and pulled the ball back for Hopper to finish well.

Marlow took until the half-hour mark to get their first effort on target but as the half came to a close they came back into the game well and were only denied by the woodwork of Matt Bulman’s goal.

However, Supermarine were able to hold tight at the back, courtesy of a man of the match performance from Ashley Taylor and Webb was very pleased with the result.

“You are never going to play well every game and you are never going to reach the levels we did to beat North Leigh last weekend,” he said.

“Any clean sheet is a good clean sheet in my opinion. When you win 1-0 it is good.

“We started the game very well and for the first 25 minutes we were completely in control and probably should have added to Luke Hopper’s goal.

“We didn’t take those opportunities and the game sort of changed a little bit and they came back into it.

“They have got some good young players and they caused us some problems.

“We weren’t at our best today by any means, but that doesn’t matter. It is all about winning the game and the players deserve great credit for seeing the game through.

“I thought Ashley Taylor for us today was brilliant at the back and was the deserved man of the match.

“It’s a clean sheet and three points and I will take as many of them as I can get in the remaining games.

“We know we have got a lot more to give and we know we can do better, but I am happy.”

Supermarine now turn their attention to Tuesday night when they play host to Slimbridge, who sit one place outside the drop zone, and Webb is hoping his side can build on Saturday’s win.

“We’re an improving side and we’re not the finished article yet,” he added.

“That again shows signs of improvement to me; to win a game 1-0 and keep a clean sheet.

“We move on to Slimbridge on Tuesday and another game we have to look to get maximum points in.

“We need another good performance and hopefully that may lift us up into the top spot.”
