CROFT Juniors proved that age is just a number as their youth got the better of Penhill United to cause an upset in the Swindon Sunday League Knockout Cup.

The Division Four club ran out 3-2 winners away to Penhill, who are currently sitting top of Division One.

The lower league side took the lead after just two minutes when Doug Grant made it down the left wing before crossing to Sam Matthews for a three-yard tap in.

Matthews then turned provider as he put the ball in for Grant to get a goal from close range, before Josh West spotted the keeper off his line from 35 yards out and found the top corner.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game against the team that are top of Division One,” said Sellers.

“We are a pretty inexperienced team, with all of them under 20 years of age, and we had a 17-year-old debutant playing in goal, so we knew we were going to be against it.

“It was a battling performance, the players, worked hard for each other, and it was a deserved win in the end.

“We know we are a good side because we won the cup last year and we know what we are capable of.

“On our day we probably fancy our chances against most of the team, I won’t say all of the teams.”

Fellow Division One outfit SKS Blyskawica also suffered a cup upset as third division Uruguay Sociedad inflicted a 2-0 defeat, while it was straight forward for the other top division clubs.

Greyhound put 11 without reply past Woodlands Edge, while KC Globe ran out 8-1 winners away to Highworth Town Sunday.

Second-placed Walcot completed a 7-2 win over West Swindon Wanderers, while Deers Leap were 2-1 winners over Cricklade.

Shrivenham Sunday continue their good start to the season in Division Two after a 7-2 win over Wanborough, while FS Swindon were beaten 2-1 by Division Four Fox & Hounds Freshbrook.

Division Four side Cricklade MTA had a comfortable afternoon as they beat Division Five’s Haydon 10-2.

In the Chairman’s Cup, The Windmill put their poor start in the league behind them as they ran out 6-1 winners over Purton Red House, with Moonrakers completing a 3-1 win over Moovahome.

Third Division Wedge also recorded their first win of the season with a 4-3 success over Fairford Sunday, while Division Five Athletico Marlborough were 5-2 winners at Division Three side Eldene.
