SWINDON Spitfires were dialled in at the weekend as they hit five past R&D United without reply to maintain their 100 per cent record in Division One.

Having kicked off the season with a spectacular 19-0 victory over Wheatie Wanderers, Barry Winslow’s side had to battle to a 5-3 win over Core Construction before securing another comfortable win at home on Saturday.

Luke Burroughs opened the scoring for the hosts before Mike Cox netted a brace to add to goals from Piotr Kusztykiewicz and Stephen Hughes.

Winslow, who was away on a Butlins holiday, missed the game but made sure he was always connected with what was going on as he stayed on the phone for the entire game.

“It was a bit of a weird one because I wasn’t at the game, but I did have a lot to do with it because I stayed on the phone for most of the game,” he said.

“It is a bit frustrating when you can’t be there and it was being relayed to me and it sounded like we missed a lot of chances.

“The nicest thing this year is having the same core of players hanging around and everybody put in a good performance on Saturday.

“It is nice to see some of the younger players can mix it in without some of the older players being there.

“At the moment I am just glad with the clean sheets, because it shows that we are improving at the back.

“Like any team we are hoping to go top of the table and I think it will come down to the games against Ramsbury and the other teams around us when it comes to the end of the season.”

Ramsbury remain top of the second tier following a straight-forward 3-1 win over North Swindon courtesy of a brace from Georgian Radulescu, to add to a strike from Ali Mair.

Moredon remain the only other side with a 100 per cent record in the division after goals from Paul Stevens and James Conde secured a 2-0 win over Chiseldon.

Morris Street lost their first game of the campaign as they were beaten 4-3 by Core Construction, while Bassett Bulldogs and Swindon Centurians played out a 3-3 draw.

In the Premier Division, Tawny Owl maintain their good start to the campaign with a 7-2 win over Old Town United, courtesy of braces from Patrick Slattery, Kenny Hawkins and Jack Allan.

Meanwhile, KS Miltax got their first win of the season with a 6-2 win over Spectrum.
