SHRIVENHAM boss Michael McNally could not see any negatives despite seeing his side go out of the Berks & Bucks FA Intermediate Cup with a 1-0 defeat at Finchampstead.

The Barrington Park outfit bowed out at the third round away to their Hellenic League Division One East rivals.

The hosts, who sit second in their table, scored the only goal of the game when Freddie Barron netted in the first half.

Despite failing to progress McNally was happy with his team’s performance in a game they controlled for large periods.

“We didn’t start great and we probably gave them too much respect,” he said.

“After they scored we sort of settled down and we got on top in midfield and we dominated the game.

“We were creating chances in the first half and could have gone in 2-1 up.

“In the second half we came out well and Elliot Day could have scored from five yards out but the keeper made a great save.

“I think second half our goalie has only touched it two or three times.

“There are no negatives and everything was really positive again.”

Despite Shrivenham now having not won in their last three outings, failing to score in those games, McNally believes that his side are adapting to how he wants them to play and knows they will be able to get to safety in the Hellenic Division One West if they carry on playing in the same manner.

“We’re performing well we are just not getting the break really,” he added.

“I think the penny has dropped now with what I am trying to get across to the lads.

“It is sinking in a bit and I know that you go on results but if we keep playing how we have been in the last couple of weeks then we should be ok.”
