SWINDON Spitfires Development entertained FC Chippenham, but they were unable to prevent the Wiltshire Women’s & Girls League Open Age Division leaders, recording a 3-0 win.

Spitfires started the game brightly and created a number of good opportunities in the opening minutes but they were unable to make them count.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 21st minute after a well placed through ball found a forward on the edge of the box who fired past Lisa Mathews in the Spitfires goal.

In the second half, Spitfires again started strongly but Chippenham were able to take a hold on the game as the hosts started to tire.

On 76 minutes Chippenham grabbed their second when one of their strikers was able to dribble in to the box and her shot was driven in at the near post.

With three minutes of the game remaining, Chippenham grabbed their final goal from the penalty spot after Ellen Cook was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the six-yard box.

Meanwhile, in the other Open Age match that took place on Sunday, Marlborough Town stormed into a 3-0 lead against Melksham Town.

However, they were unable to hold to the lead as the visitors managed to hit back for a 3-3 draw.

Swindon Spitfires Women and Girls’ Football Club are currently looking to recruit more players from the ages of seven years up to ladies, to add to their current team squads.
