SWINDON Supermarine boss Dave Webb was pleased with the character shown by his side as they reversed a two goal deficit to claim a point at home to Tiverton Town.

A Chris Taylor brace either side of half-time gave the hosts a share of the spoils after Owen Howe had given the visitors the lead with his own double.

Despite clawing back the point, Webb still felt his side had the chances to clinch the win as they extended their unbeaten run in Southern League Division One South & West.

“It was a big game for both sides and we went 2-0 down because they caused us some problems,” said the Webb's Wood boss.

“When you come back from 2-0 down and you get a point, I suppose, you see it as a point gained.

“We had the opportunities, certainly in the second half, to win the game.

“We struggled with our quality into the front.

“With the players we have got up top, with Josh Parsons and Connor Waldon yesterday, they have got two or three big centre backs to deal with them.

“We had to play the ball to our strengths, keep it on the floor and play down the sides of them, but in the first half the balls in were perfect for the defenders to use their strengths.

“At half time we talked about trying to improve our quality to the front, which we did in the second half, which is what caused them real problems.

“Against a good side you do well to come back from two goals down, so I am pleased with that.

“We showed a lot of character and got the draw to take the unbeaten run to 10 in the league and it just keeps things ticking over.

“We’re still in a very good position so we have just got to keep it going really.”

Taylor netted from the penalty spot five minutes before the break after Howe had put his side two up inside 35 minutes.

The midfielder then found the net with 12 minutes to go from 25-yards-out as he caught the ball sweetly with his instep to beat the keeper, after Connor Waldon had seen his goal ruled out for offside.

Webb lavished praise on Taylor and knows his experienced players will be crucial to his side’s success this campaign.

“It was another outstanding game for him yesterday,” he added.

“He is vital to our side. He is experienced and has played at the right level with good quality.

“He helps the younger players – we have a lot of them at the football club - and he sets a great example with the way he does things in training and on the pitch every Saturday.”
