IT was a fantastic four for the third time running as Mark Collier’s Chippenham Town side completed a straight-forward win over St Neots Town.

Matt Smith opened the scoring for the visitors after just quarter of an hour before an Andy Sandell penalty and two St Neots own goals secured the 4-0 victory for second placed Chippenham.

The victory extended the Bluebirds’ unbeaten run in the Southern League Premier Division to five games, with their goal tally an ample 14 from those outings.

“It was a very, very good away performance,” said Collier.

“We’ve gone to St Neots in good form, they were not in good form themselves –their manager had left in the week so you don’t know what response you are going to get to that – but to go there and score four goals, we absolutely played them off the pitch.

“That is the third time we have scored four goals in the last three games and we got three points and a clean sheet.”

Chippenham started strongly and were rewarded in the 15th minute when Matt Smith cut inside and drilled the ball into the bottom corner with his left foot.

Despite dominating possession, Chippenham were almost punished for not taking their chances moments before the break with Kent Kauppinen forced into a fine save.

The Bluebirds responded immediately and went down the other end to earned themselves a penalty, when Sandell was fouled trying to get to a Luke Ballinger cross, and Sandell lifted himself up to give the visitors a two goal cushion at half time.

A Ben Burton own goal nine minutes after the interval all but wrapped up the win, when he turned home an Alex Ferguson cross, before another own goal, this time from Adam Tann off a cross from Conor McCormack, capped off the scoring in the 93rd minute.

With Poole Town only managing a draw at home to King’s Lynn Town it meant that Chippenham were able to keep the pressure on the league leaders.

“Conor has been out for a long time and Matt Jones has come on and Ollie Taylor has come on so we have managed to rest a few as well,” added Collier.

“It just shows the strength in depth of the squad at the moment.

“Things are going well. You get on the coach and you check the results and they have gone well for us as well so it has been a good Saturday for us.

“I always say to the players and the supporters at the club, who are very demanding, that there will be highs and lows and we’ll have to take them.

“At the moment we are on a good run and are on the upwards curve and long may that continue.”
