ASHLEY Edenborough has made a shock return to Fairford Town despite being chased by clubs in the Southern League.

The 29-year-old left Southern League Division One South and West side Swindon Supermarine in January to spend more time with his young family.

While the hot-shot was courted by Southern League clubs in both the Premier Division and in Marine’s division, as well as Hellenic League Premier Division outfit Highworth Town, Edenborough decided to join the Division One West leaders, who are without a game this weekend.

“I spoke with Highworth, Frome, Cirencester, North Leigh and Cinderford, but I didn’t want to do all the travelling – that is part of the reason why I left Supermarine,” said Edenborough, who scored 104 goals in 207 appearance during his three spells at the Webb’s Wood Stadium.

“I have got two kids, a five-year-old and a three-year-old, I have been spending plenty of time with them and enjoying every minute of it.

“That is one of the reasons that Fairford suits me. They haven’t got many games left this season and I know Ropes (assistant manager Ady Roper) and Gareth (Davies) from when I was here about 10 years ago.

“I’m here to play a few games and help them out and then decide what I’m going to do next season.”

Shrivenham manager Michael McNally is hoping that his side can haul themselves off the foot of the table when they entertain fellow strugglers Tytherington Rocks.

The Barrington Park side trail their visitors by one point and McNally is looking to find the form that saw they defeat Cirencester Town Development 2-1 in December.

“They are down there with us, we will give them the respect they deserve, but I think that we will probably go back to a 4-3-3, having played a 4-4-2 at Carterton last week, and have a go at them,” McNally said.

The Shrivvy chief is sweating over the fitness of Jamie Prictor and Steve Kear after they limped off during the 2-1 loss at Carterton last weekend, while he is also hopeful of having two new faces on board for tomorrow.

Purton will be hoping to finally kick a ball in anger in 2016 when they make the trip to Clanfield 85.

Justin Miller’s men have not played since Monday, December 28, when they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Letcombe.

Meanwhile, New College host Carterton tomorrow as they look to play their first game since December 9.
