MICHAEL McNally hopes a double signing can be the spark that is needed to kick-start Shrivenham’s season into life.

Shrivvy have won just five games in all competitions so far this term and are currently bottom of the pile in Hellenic League Division One West.

McNally’s men have the chance for another rare victory this evening as they travel to Woodley United – their counterparts propping up the Division One East table – in the Bluefin Sports Supplementary Challenge Cup second round.

They are set to have two debutants in their team as Josh Fowler has recently returned to Shrivvy from Royal Wootton Bassett Town, while Leigh Brown has signed from Fairford Town, and McNally is eager to see them make an impact.

“Woodley seem to be conceding quite a few goals, so hopefully we can go there and get a good result,” said McNally.

“We should have a full squad to pick from and we made a couple of signings towards the end of last week too, so hopefully they can have an impact for us.

“Leigh is an experienced player and that’s something we’ve really needed and I know all about Josh - he played for me a few years ago and scored quite a few goals, so hopefully he can do the same again.

“We were probably the better team for 60 or 70 minutes in our last game against Carterton (a 2-1 loss on January 30) but ended up getting beat and that’s the way it seems to be going for us at the minute.

“If we can get a win under our belts, hopefully we can turn the corner, and hopefully these few new faces will make the difference for us.

“After the cup game, we’ve got Purton and that’s a nice game, a local derby, so we have to try to go into the next couple of games with a bit of confidence.”

Shrivenham’s Division One West rivals New College are also looking for a place in the third round of the same competition and travel to higher league Milton United, while Highworth Town entertain Highmoor Ibis.
