SWINDON Centurions wrapped up another successful campaign in the Wiltshire Veterans League by being crowned champions for the second time in three seasons.
Heading into their final league match against Hathaway’s, Centurions knew that nothing other than a win would be good enough to secure the title as victory for Hathaway’s would have seen them finish top of the pile instead.
After a tight first half, Centurions headed into the break 1-0 to the good. However, within five minutes of the restart, Hathaway’s had pulled level with their first shot.
Centurions were able to regain the lead but Hathaway’s pegged them back once more.
With both teams knowing that a draw was no good, Centurions rolled up their sleeves scored two more goals to claim a 4-2 and take the title.
Ricky Hewitson was named man of the match after getting two goals, while Gareth Parry and Gareth Walton were also on target for Centurions.
