SHRIVENHAM boss Michael McNally has challenged his players to maintain the five-star standards they delivered during Saturday's thumping victory over Tytherington Rocks at Barrington Park.

The home side romped to their best win of the season to give themselves a real opportunity to move away from the foot of the Division One West table during the run-in to the end of the season.

Three goals to the good by half time, McNally's men rubber-stamped an excellent performance as Kias Bonner-Shea helped himself to a second-half double, the second coming from the penalty spot.

McNally was delighted that his pre-match instructions had been followed to the letter as his men delivered a performance packed with desire and effort.

"We said to the lads to have a right go and our intent was right from the off, we went right at them,'' said the manager.

"Even in the second half, we came out and kept playing on the front foot which was great to see because the surface wasn't the easiest.

"I think we've been knocking on the door for two or three months really and we got our just rewards (on Saturday).

"The lads now realise what they need to do to get across the finishing line.''

Daryl Harris opened the scoring just after the quarter-hour mark and Ryan Wilkinson and Jamie Prictor had added further strikes to put their side thoroughly in control at the break.

McNally added: "The most pleasing things were they way we played - the football was superb - and how hard we worked when we didn't have the ball.

"They've set the standard now and it's up to them to live up to that.

"Results don't lie but they've all stuck together and the atmosphere around the club has been very good.''

While Shrivenham scored five, New College conceded the same total at Carterton to stay rooted to the bottom of the table.

A hat-trick from Jack Dunmall, plus Dan Bishop (penalty) and Jack Kennedy did the damage against the Swindon side as third-placed Carterton closed in on inactive leaders Fairford Town.

In the Premier Division, Royal Wootton Bassett Town were without a game, while Highworth Town's clash against Milton United was postponed.

FAIRFORD Town are holding a former players' day at the club on March 5 to help celebrate their 125th anniversary.

Entry to the derby against Shrivenham (3pm) is free for all former players, managers and coaches.
