DAVE Hockaday has been pleased with the interest shown after the first week of his football academy at the Swindome.

The former Swindon Town defender started the academy with a half-term football camp last week at Swindon Supermarine’s new indoor facility.

Alongside Dafydd Williams, who has coached at Cardiff City, Swansea and Bristol City, Hockaday is delivering training to children up to the age of 16.

Following the four-day football camp, the academy will now offer football clinics for varying age groups and Hockaday is confident they can provide the best coaching in the town.

“We did a coaching session for four days and showed people who came what we are about, which is enjoyable football but proper coaching,” he said.

“The feedback was excellent and everybody who came along are now coming along to the clinics.

“We started the clinics on Monday night and had an under 12s, 13s and 14s group which went well.

“We have just started quietly with not massive numbers because we don’t want to have huge numbers as the quality of coaching is diluted.

“I think everybody is intrigued and interested.

“You can tell people until you are blue in the face how good the facility is but it is only when they step in and see it that they go ‘wow’. We’ve got the best facility in the area and I believe we will give the best coaching.

“Jez Webb, who has funded the facility all himself, has erected a fantastic facility and he has to be applauded.”
