HIS TEAM may have run riot in the first half against Bridgwater Town but manager Dave Webb reckons Swindon Supermarine were far from perfect on Saturday.

Chris Taylor fired Marine ahead from the penalty spot at the Webb’s Wood Stadium before a Bradley Gray double had them in cruise control at the break.

However, the home side were unable to sustain that level in the second half and Matt Connick was able to reduce the deficit for the visiting side.

That was as far as the comeback got and Marine boss Webb was just happy to get off the pitch with three more points in the bag, their long unbeaten run intact and his team still well in the fight for promotion.

“We probably didn’t reach the heights that we have done in recent performances on Saturday,” said Webb.

“We talked at half-time about being 3-0 up and could we go out in the second half and score a few more goals, and improve our goals for column and improve our goal difference?

“To be fair to Bridgwater, they improved and came back into the game.

“Sometimes that happens in football - you don’t always play at your best but the ultimate thing is getting three points and that’s what we did.

“We weren’t quite at our best but good teams can have a bad day and still manage to get the three points, and that’s what we managed to do.

“It’s job done. We’ve got three points and I can’t ask for any more from the players. That’s 16 games without a defeat.

“It’s one of those games where we just didn’t reach our top level but it’s job done.”

Despite seeing four goals at the Webb’s Wood Stadium, the Marine boss conceded the flat second half may have left some supporters feeling short-changed.

Webb has therefore promised an improved performance on Tuesday night when Marine play host to fellow promotion hopefuls Evesham United.

“I was disappointed for the supporters as they probably didn’t get enough entertainment for their money and sometimes that’s difficult as a manager,” added Webb.

“If they come week in, week out, they will see a very good and very impressive Supermarine side, that are there to entertain.

“I’m sure if people come to watch us again on Tuesday, they will see a much better performance from us against a very good Evesham side.

“We know we will have to be a lot better against Evesham as they had a terrific result against Taunton.”
