SWINDON Supermarine's Southern League Division One South & West hopes suffered a blow tonight as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat at home to Evesham United.

Dave Webb's men were defending a 14-match unbeaten run that had taken them up to third and a point behind leaders Banbury United heading into the clash, but play-off chasing Evesham claimed the points with two second-half goals.

Ryan O'Hara had the first chance for the home side but he fired over the bar and, in a half of few chances, Connor Waldon also headed wide while Marine were largely untroubled at the back.

Evesham worked up a head of steam after the break and eventually took the lead after a counter-attack which saw Lance Smith fire home.

Marine rang the changes, bringing on Ryan Stanners and Sam Morris but Smith's second settled the destination of the points.

It was a similar story for title-chasing Chippenham Town in the Premier Division as they suffered a 2-0 reverse at Merthyr Town in south Wales.

Meanwhile Highworth Town's already faint hopes of making an impact at the top of the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Divisionsuffered a potentially fatal blow as they were beaten 2-0 at home by Thame United.
