BASSETT Bulldogs secured their place in the final of the George Thomas/Don Rogers Cup with a straightforward 6-0 victory over Core Construction.

A quadruple from Ricardo Serratore set the hosts on their way before strikes from Saul Charalambos and Craig Hunt wrapped up the semi-final with ease.

“They have had some mixed results and we were the favourites going into it, and it was just a case of trying to get the job done,” said manager Colin Cochrane.

“I think they were probably on top for the first 20 minutes or so but we managed to get two goals.

“I still don’t think we were playing our best in the first half but we ended up going in 3-0 up.

“They were really unlucky, with a guy getting sent off for a last-man tackle, but we were clinical in the end and managed to finish them off.

“I think (making the final) is something I always saw coming with the group of lads we have now.

“It is a cup final and we are going to enjoy the day as much as possible.”

Bassett now face the winner of the second semi-final between Morris Street and Premier Division side DJC Marlborough, which is due to be played this Saturday, but Cochrane is confident the final won’t act as a distraction to his players.

“After being the only team to beat (league leaders) Spitfires, we are on quite a bit of a high at the moment,” he added.

“I think the cup game is in May, so near enough the end, if not the end, of the season, so everybody has motivation there to get into that team.

“I think the league form won’t suffer from it at all. If anything, it will improve because people will be fighting for places.”

Meanwhile, Avtar Construction booked their place in the final of the Adver Cup with an equally comfortable 5-0 dispatch of Lower Stratton.

A brace from Lewis Waldon added to strikes from Blaine Fitzgerald, Jason McGovern and Chris Price, with Avtar set to play the winner of Shield & Dagger and Tawny Owl.

In the Premier Division, Shield & Dagger closed the gap on the top two with a 2-1 win over Spectrum, while Village Inn ran out 5-1 victors away to DJC Marlborough.

In Division One, Swindon Spitfires remain top after their 2-0 win at Moredon but Swindon Centurians, remain on their coattails after a 5-0 win over North Swindon WMC.

Morris Street were 7-1 victors over R&D United, while Ramsbury completed a 2-1 win at Chiseldon.
