SWINDON Town Ladies closed the gap at the top of the FA Women’s Premier League South West Division One table after an impressive 3-0 victory away at Maidenhead Ladies on Sunday.

Second-placed Chichester City’s 1-0 success over table toppers Larkhall Athletic means Swindon sit third on goal difference and are now just five points off top spot with three games in hand.

A header from Chyna Collings set Steve Robertson’s side on their way early in the first half and their lead was doubled by Ellie Maynard soon afterwards.

Swindon held their 2-0 advantage through to the half-time interval, with Beth Westlake eventually adding a third in the second half.

Manager Robertson said: “It was a case of just getting the job done, we had to work very hard for the win.

“It’s a positive result, it keeps our momentum going but we are still not looking beyond the next game.

“Every team we play is going to want to get that scalp. People will be out to chop us down now so its important to focus on each game and see what happens.

“We still have not lost a game and that’s our fourth clean sheet on the bounce. Teams will look to up their game against us and hopefully that will drive us on that extra 10 per cent as well.”

The win maintains Town’s unbeaten start to the season, which has seen them win nine of their opening 11 games in the league with two draws.

But Robertson said he’s keeping his team’s focus on the next game, when they welcome Exeter City to Shrivenham on Easter Sunday, and no further.

“In training we talk about which games are coming up and how we are going to prepare. It’s looking at the fixture list and putting the players in the right positions each week,” he said.

“It’s a seven-day build-up, once that game is done we start again and talk about next week. We have to make sure we keep the girls focused on the next game.”
