FAIRFORD Town manager Gareth Davies admits that he can’t wait to wave goodbye to the nail-biting tension of the Hellenic League Division One title battle.

Davies’ men remain top of the pile but have played more matches than all-but-one of the sides in their division and have a number of teams breathing down their neck.

Tonight, Fairford face potentially the most crucial of their three remaining assignments when they lock horns with third-placed Carterton, who have a full five matches in hand, at Cinder Lane (kick-off 7.45pm).

“I’ve had enough of it – I’ll be glad to see the end of this,” said boss Davies.

“It’s just another game where we have to target three points and all we can do is what’s put in front of us.

“They’ll be big, strong and busy, and when we played them down at their place, we drew 1-1.

“They’re up there, but they’ve got to win all their games in hand – it’s alright having games in hand but for me, I’d rather have the points on the board.

“We’ll just do what we can.”

Meanwhile, Purton go looking to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Fairford last weekend when they make the trip to Clanfield.

Manager Justin Miller said: “We’re not used to playing many midweeks but hopefully everyone’s available and we will have a few more back as well.

“We’ve got some tough games left. We’ve got Carterton at home and Hook Norton at home, so they’re two teams that are going for it.

“We’ll do like we did on Saturday – the lads worked hard and we’ll continue that until the end of the season.”

Elsewhere, Highworth Town host Oxford City Nomads whilst Royal Wootton Bassett Town go to Brimscombe & Thrupp in the Premier Division.
