HIGHWORTH Town’s lacklustre finish to the Premier Division season continued on Thursday night when they were beaten 3-1 at Brimscombe & Thrupp.

The Worthians’ current run is hardly the swansong that long-serving boss John Fisher envisaged before he retires at the end of the campaign as his side have failed to win any of their last five matches.

Highworth had got off to a dream start against Brimscombe, taking the lead inside 10 minutes when Callum Parsons found the back of the net following a Bradley Clark free-kick.

The lead did not last long, though, and Sam Blackie levelled the scores, turning home a cross after some dithering in the Worthians’ defence.

Highworth dominated the remainder of the half but could not find a way through, with TJ Bohane going close and Parsons hitting the woodwork.

The home side came out the stronger after the break and two goals from Billy Jones secured them the points, although Highworth did have an effort from Ritchie Saunders ruled out for offside when the score was 2-1.

The defeat ends Highworth’s chances of a top-four finish this season. They have just two games remaining, although are not in action this weekend.
