DAVE Webb says that a buoyant Swindon Supermarine are bounding into the play-offs after putting together one of their most comprehensive displays of the season on Saturday.

In their penultimate game of the season before they tackle the unforgiving lottery of the Southern League Division One South and West play-offs, Webb’s men racked up a fine 5-1 triumph on the road at AFC Totton, roaring back after falling behind courtesy of a Ross Adams own goal.

Connor Thompson levelled matters before half-time before Sam Morris, Conor Waldon all netted Josh Parson, with Thompson rounding things off with his second of the afternoon.

Marine look on-course for a fourth-placed finish in the table, which would hand them an away trip in the single-legged play-offs semi-finals, but Webb is simply concerned with his team maintaining their impressive momentum.

“We’ve got three games left and if we win them all, we’ll get promoted,” said the Webb’s Wood Stadium chief.

“That’s the way that we’re looking at it and it’s important that we keep the players focused and keep that momentum going.

“At the moment, I’m very proud to be involved with this group of players. We were outstanding and made a good Totton side look average, even after going a goal behind.

“We set up slightly differently and still played really well, so we’re adaptable. It was probably our most complete display in a long time and that was great to see.

“We played some great football and scored some very good goals.

“We want to be in a good place for that semi-final and I think that we will be. That’s got to be our focus.

“As I’ve said before, hopefully the experience we’ve had of twice going close and just missing out will help us when we get to those play-offs.”

With fifth-placed Winchester City in action in midweek, Marine could be guaranteed fourth-place by the time they welcome Didcot Town to Wiltshire in their final league game of the season on Saturday, April 23, meaning that Webb has yet to decide if he’ll be shuffling his pack with the play-offs in mind.

He added: “How we approach our last league game will depend on if Winchester get a win at Slimbridge on Wednesday, because we could be guaranteed fourth by then.

“But whatever happens, we’ve got a great group of players that all want to play and all want to be involved.”

  • CHIPPENHAM Town’s hopes of reaching the Premier Division play-offs will be over in midweek if both Redditch United and Hungerford Town pick up victories.

Mark Collier’s men saw their trip to Redditch rained off on Saturday – that clash has been rearranged for Wednesday night – but their outside chances of sneaking into the top-five could already be over by the time they arrive in Worcestershire if the Reds beat Kettering on Monday and Hungerford win at Histon on Tuesday.
