AFTER winning the Wiltshire futsal tournament by scoring 38 goals and conceding only four, Swindon Spitfires clinched a place in the national futsal tournament courtesy of their success at the regional finals in Paignton.

Spitfires played three group games, drawing the first 1-1 and then comfortably winning the next two.

That was enough to secure top spot in the group and progress to the final against Highnam, who opened the scoring early on.

Spitfires responded with two goals in quick succession before adding two more to make the result 4-1 and go through to the national finals in Birmingham in June.

l SPITFIRES Under 13s secured their second Wiltshire League Cup victory as they defeated FC Chippenham with a 3-1 win, goals coming from Kayleigh Stanley and a brace from Kimberley Jackson.

Swindon Spitfires United were less fortunate, going down 3-2 to Marlborough Town, who avenged last year’s defeat, captain Claire Moreton and Claire Hill scoring Spitfire’ goals.

The team also paid tribute to the club’s long-serving Bev Maull, by donning T-shirts with her face on.

Spitfires Under 15’s secured a 7-0 win over Bath City with two goals from Shannon King, Emily Bowdidge and Hannah Peachey, plus a Tamzin Davis strike.

The Under 16’s missed out on a place in the Oxford Mail League Cup Final after defeat to Kidlington.
