ROYAL Wootton Bassett manager Paul Braithwaite is happy with the arrival of former Swindon Supermarine reserve team manager Martyn Robinson.

Braithwaite, who has signed on for a third consecutive year at the Gerrard Buxton Sports Ground, will be joined by three familiar faces in the shape of Chris Hunter, Rich Hunter and Marcus Lewis, with Robinson's arrival supplementing the backroom staff.

Braithwaite is happy with how his management team is looking as they aim to improve on a 15th-placed finish in the Hellenic League Premier Division last term.

He said: “Chris has been with me for four seasons now. It’s important he returned. He had interest from other clubs but he is happy in is work here. Rich has just completed his UEFA B licence, so that is a plus for us and the players.

“Lewis has helped goalkeepers of all ages at the club. Chris’ experience in various roles can only be an asset to him.”

Robinson’s arrival will bring some much-needed experience to what is a fresh-faced management set-up.

“Martyn provides us with a senior head and I’m happy to have him on board. He’s happy to be that person who carries the bottles and helps with the kit but when a question is asked, he will give advice,” Braithwaite added.

“I’m not a selfish person. It’s not about me; it is about the club. We are young, we are in our 30s; to have someone with his background and experience can mean we learn something, we want to learn.

“The majority of the players I have spoken to are returning from last year and hopefully we can bring in some new additions as well.”

Due to a clash with the England-Slovakia Euro 2016 game, senior section pre-season training is now set to begin on Thursday, June 23 at the New Gerard Buxton Sports Ground (7-9pm).

Rather than a full session on Monday, June 20, an open six-a-side session will take place, beginning at 6.45pm.

  • WROUGHTON are on the lookout for a new manager and players for the upcoming season.

The new recruits would be representing the club’s reserve team, who are set to play in the Swindon & District League in 2016/17. Wroughton’s first team will continue to ply their trade in the Wiltshire League.

Wroughton chairman Kevin Cook said: “This is an ideal opportunity for any manager who has recently finished at U18s level and is looking to bring their lads into adult football.”

Any new additions would be accommodated alongside the current crop of youngsters already in the club’s youth ranks who are looking to make the step up to the adult game.

Any prospective applicants can contact Cook on 07776 142981.
