FAIRFORD Town boss Gareth Davies wants to get off to the perfect start when they travel to Abingdon United this evening.

This evening’s hosts were relegated from the Hellenic League Premier Division last season having only picked up six wins during their league campaign.

However, Davies, who is hoping to improve on their fourth place finish last term knows that both teams will be looking to get off the mark early on.

“You have to set your stall out to try and get three points,” he said.

“The lads have been looking forward to it. You can play as many friendlies as you like but there is nothing that matches trying to get three points.

“We’ll go there and set up to take all three points, it would be silly not to.

“All of the new signings are available tomorrow and if (the signing of) Chris Jackson is done in time then he will travel as well.”

Meanwhile, New College Academy director, Ian Howell, has been promoted at Chelsea and will be assistant manager to U21 boss Adi Viveash for the upcoming season.

Howell has been involved with the younger academy age groups at Stamford Bridge, whilst continuing his role with the college, and takes over the role from Andy Myers, who has joined the first team coaching staff at Vitesse Arnhem.

“Ian has combined his role at Chelsea for several years, along with managing the New College Academy programme,” said New College assistant head coach Matt Cosnett.

“This will be a great factor for the College as Ian will be able to bring back lots of information and knowledge for the lads to gain the benefits of both players and coaching staff.”

“It is a massive achievement which everyone involved with the college side would like to congratulate Ian on.”
