ROYAL Wootton Bassett are a new-look side for the up and coming league campaign after manager Paul Braithwaite’s heavy summer recruitment drive.

The off-season has seen more than 10 new additions, most of which have come from local rivals Highworth Town.

Striker TJ Bohane, midfielders Bradley Clark, Aaron Maximen and Jon Davoile, who will captain the side, upped sticks from the Elms to head to Bassett, but striker Steve Robertson doesn’t believe the influx of new players will cause any problems.

“I know a lot of them from having played with them at previous clubs, they are all good lads and they have mixed in well with the old lads we have from last year,’’ said Robertson. “It will just be a case of seeing whether we can gel together as a team come the time the season starts. I’m confident they should be able to do that.”

As well as players, Braithwaite has also added to his coaching staff, with Martyn Robinson joining him, Chris Hunter, Rich Hunter and Marcus Lewis.

“He was with me when I was at Shrivenham a few years back, he was a physio and goalkeeper then so he obviously knows a lot of the Highworth players too. It can only be a good thing to mix the two together,” added Robertson. “The biggest aim is keeping all the lads together and then to finish as high as possible, I think the club want to finish in the top 10 this year.

“If they can keep everybody happy you never know. We are obviously capable of doing it, we have good enough players.”

With regards to the style of football, Robertson said it would be ‘silly’ not to try and play football given the quality of the pitch they have at the Gerrard Buxton Sports Ground.

“We’ve been doing a lot of passing around in pre-season so should be a bit more of a passing game,’’ he added.

“We have a nice pitch so we would be silly not to try and play football on it, we have a lot of good footballers at the club so hopefully we can play some football.”
