SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb admits that his side are coming up against an unknown quantity when they host Barnstaple Town tomorrow afternoon.

Last season’s Toolstation League Premier Division champions head to the Webb’s Wood Stadium and Webb is not underestimating the league new boys.

Barnstaple have already proven that they will be a force to reckon with having beaten last season’s beaten play-off finalists Taunton Town, who defeated Marine at the semi-final stage, on Tuesday night.

However, Supermarine sit top of the Southern League Division One South & West table having won their opening two outings and Webb sees no reason why they shouldn’t head into the game full of confidence.

“We have got to try and make it three now and take care of Barnstaple when they come here,” Webb said.

“We don’t know much about them. I’ll make some enquiries in the remainder of this week to find out more about them and hopefully make it another win.

“I always think when you play teams out of that league, Larkhall were very strong coming out of there, they are difficult.

“I would be surprised if they’re not very physically strong and I imagine them to be well organised.

“We have to be confident in what we do. We know the way we want to play and we can be a match for anyone.”

Webb will be looking for more composure from his side in front of goal tomorrow having seen them ease into a 1-0 lead, courtesy of a fine Joe Selmen solo effort, against AFC Totton on Tuesday night but then fail to put the game out of sight as the visitors made for a nervy ending to Marine’s opening home game of the season.

“We certainly got shots on targets, or shots hitting crossbars and posts, but couldn’t beat their ‘keeper,” said Webb.

“We eventually scored a good goal through Joe Selmen, who broke through the line and finished it really well, but never really added that second goal that our play deserved.

“We didn’t play as well in the second half but it is only the second game of the season and we are not fully at it yet.

“Overall, I can’t be too critical. It is a new team with a lot of new players and it is encouraging.”
