ROYAL Wootton Bassett Town recorded their first win of the Hellenic League Premier Division season in a 3-1 success at Henley Town, who ended the game with eight men.

With the scores level at the break, the hosts found themselves a man light shortly after the restart when Jordan Goddard was dismissed for raising his arms.

Things got worse for the newly promoted side, who finished third in Division One East last term, when Ben Blackwell received his second yellow card of the game for a foul on Sam Packer.

Paul Braithwaite’s side eventually got off the mark when Steve Robertson’s cross was met by former Highworth Town forward TJ Bohane.

Henley then saw a third player take an early bath as Brad Hoy got a straight red for handling the ball on the line and Bohane was happy to convert the resulting penalty.

Despite being down three players, Henley pulled a goal back through Jack Thompson but Packer secured the win and three points when Bohane turned provider.

Meanwhile, Highworth were not as fortunate on the road as they fell to a 4-2 defeat away to Thame United.

The hosts broke the deadlock when Ross Adams’ attempted clearance cannoned off Tom Ashworth and into the net.

However, Jeff Roberts’ side were back on level terms just moments later when Ashley Edenborough was fouled in the box and the forward picked himself up to stick away the resulting penalty.

Thame were back in front five minutes after the break when Andy Gledhill headed home, before he netted the third with a fine solo effort to beat Max Scholefield.

Gledhill then turned provider as Thame put the game out of sight when Lynton Goss tapped home inside the six-yard box, sending them top of the league in the process.

Highworth were able to pull a goal back when Aysa Corrick struck the post and Fabian McCarthy slotted home the rebound.

Highworth sit four places off the bottom having not won either of their opening two games, while Bassett sit in ninth place on three points.
