SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb knows his side can’t rest on their laurels when they face a difficult trip to Slimbridge this evening.

Marine sit second in the Southern League Division One South & West table, only trailing leaders Hereford on goal difference after a perfect first week to their campaign.

Tonight will be Supermarine’s fourth game in the opening 11 days of the season and Webb is aware that they will have to be focused to get a positive result when they travel to the Swans, who are unbeaten in third place.

“It is full on,” he said.

“You’ve got to play Wednesday and then Saturday and then we play twice over the Bank Holiday weekend.

“August is always tough but the lads are fit and they have worked hard during pre-season so I don’t see it being an issue.

“Slimbridge is always a difficult place to go, especially the mid-week game and the pitch will be rock hard and it will be difficult.

“We played there last year in very wet conditions and the game probably shouldn’t have gone ahead but we went on to win that day.

“If we go there and we are any way under par then we will lose so we need to make sure whoever plays is particularly focused.”

Striker Connor Waldon is a main reason why Marine have started so well, netting five times in the opening three games, and Webb is pleased to see the former Swindon Town forward confident and fulfilling the potential he has always had.

“Connor Waldon is in good form and it is encouraging to see him scoring,” he added.

“He came to the club on loan from Swindon originally and then he got released and he has come back and left and come back again.

“I have never had any doubt in my mind that Connor is a very good finisher and a good footballer and can score goals but he has just gone through a bad spell but has worked his tail off during pre-season.

“We’re playing some good football and anybody watching us would be impressed with what they have seen.

“It is still early days and we are not going to get carried away with the results we have had.”

Meanwhile, Highworth Town and Royal Wootton Bassett Town play host to Ascot United and Thame United respectively in Hellenic League Premier Division.
