DAVE Webb’s Swindon Supermarine side got themselves back on track with a 4-1 victory way at Portishead Town in the FA Cup.

Marine were going into the cup tie after a weekend to forget when they had one game postponed due to bad weather and then lost their second over the bank holiday.

Manager Webb was more than happy with how his team responded to their first defeat of the season last Monday.

“It’s always pleasing, we lost on Monday and we knew that today would be difficult because we were playing a team who hadn’t lost this season, we just wanted to go there and progress,” said the Marine manager.

“It didn’t matter how we got there as long as we got the result, 4-1 is a good victory. The players have been excellent and have set a really high standard.”

First half goals from in-form Connor Waldon and Connor Thompson meant the Swindon side went into the break two goals to the good.

Portishead then got one back to make it 2-1, but Zak Westlake and Callum Parsons took care of business to kill the game and Webb now believes his side are regaining momentum after last weekend.

“It’s just us getting back to our best. We weren’t at our best (on Saturday) by any means but that might be me being over critical because of what they have achieved so far,” added Webb.

“At the end of the day, we haven’t been beaten, we had some players missing too and it is encouraging we can still win.

“I’ve always said, if you lose a game, it is how you react in the next one and credit to the players for reacting.

“We managed to get in front and then put the game to bed early in the second half, it’s all about the win.

“The FA Cup is much needed revenue for the football club, hopefully we will get a kind draw in the next round - we don’t want to pull out a top side.

“If we get a team we can beat then you are only three games away from something really special so I hope we get a good draw.

“They’re a young side, they’ll only get better and they’re still learning, hopefully today will renew that little bit of momentum we had before the loss at North Leigh.”

Supermarine will now get ready to host Larkhall Athletic next Saturday afternoon as they return to league action.
